Could you be a trip contact?
The club depends on members volunteering to a Trip Contact who help make our day and overnight trips run smoothly. It’s a really vital role and if you’d like to help the club out, please consider volunteering. Trip contacts get: first priority on booking club trips; subsidised training with Mountaineering Scotland and BASP (for First Aid). You don’t have to be a ski-god to do it, just be an established member with some previous experience of club trips. If you are interested please contact the committee using the contact form.
What does a trip contact do?
As a club, IBSC don’t have formal ‘leaders’ and we expect our members to be self-reliant. But there are some important things a club contact does that helps everyone be safe:
– Making sure everyone has the essential personal safety equipment like helmets and crampons suitable for the activity;
- Making sure the group carries key group safety equipment
- Making sure each group leaves details of their plan for the day in a route card as part of the club’s Late Back procedures.
- Organise transceiver checks.
Overnight trips come with a bit more organising with helping co-ordinate food, keys and access etc.
